Water Damage Dos and Don’ts

Do:

1. Look out for the safety of all persons affected.
2. Take action to stop the source of water intrusion.
3. Call 541-474-5587 for fast water damage repair response.
4. Remove as much excess water as possible by mopping and blotting.
5. Wipe water from furniture or fixtures after removing table-top items.
6. Remove and prop up wet upholstery cushions for even drying.
7. Place aluminum foil or wood blocks between furniture and wet carpet.
8. Turn air conditioning on for maximum drying in summer.
9. Remove area rugs from wet wall-to-wall carpet or wood floors.
10. Remove valuable paintings and art objects to a secure and dry place.
11. Open suitcases and luggage for drying, in sunlight if possible.
12. Pick up newspapers and magazines from wet floors.
13. Stay out of rooms where wet ceilings are sagging.
14. Hang furs and leather goods to dry separately.

Don’t:

1. Leave wet fabrics in place; dry them as soon as possible.
2. Use a household vacuum cleaner to remove water or on a wet surface.
3. Use TVs, electronics, or other household appliances while standing on wet carpet or surfaces.
4. Use any electrical appliance or device if they are or have gotten wet.
5. Turn on lights or electrical appliances in wet areas.
