Water Damage Dos and Don’ts
Do:
- Look out for the safety of all persons affected.
- Take action to stop the source of water intrusion.
- Call 541-474-5587 for fast water damage repair response.
- Remove as much excess water as possible by mopping and blotting.
- Wipe water from furniture or fixtures after removing table-top items.
- Remove and prop up wet upholstery cushions for even drying.
- Place aluminum foil or wood blocks between furniture and wet carpet.
- Turn air conditioning on for maximum drying in summer.
- Remove area rugs from wet wall-to-wall carpet or wood floors.
- Remove valuable paintings and art objects to a secure and dry place.
- Open suitcases and luggage for drying, in sunlight if possible.
- Pick up newspapers and magazines from wet floors.
- Stay out of rooms where wet ceilings are sagging.
- Hang furs and leather goods to dry separately.
Don’t:
- Leave wet fabrics in place; dry them as soon as possible.
- Use a household vacuum cleaner to remove water or on a wet surface.
- Use TVs, electronics, or other household appliances while standing on wet carpet or surfaces.
- Use any electrical appliance or device if they are or have gotten wet.
- Turn on lights or electrical appliances in wet areas.
